| Prices for amateur page programming - parts and labor? I'm not a professional programmer or anything, but I know enough HTML and web design to make basic web pages. An acquaintance has asked me if I could make a web page for his local business, an office building cleaning service. Since he wants me to put in the time to make it a good, professional looking site to market his company, he wants me to bill him. I want to give him a price that beats what he could get from a professional service - that's the whole point of him coming to me with this - but is still fair for me. Any suggestions? |
| My recommendation is to do whatever it takes to get the job. At this point in your life the experience is very valuable, as you will have the rest of you life to benefit from it. I'd recommend you bid low, also since it will take you more hours than someone that has experience doing this already, so I'd recommend you bid the official minimum wage for your state. If its cheap enough, he will keep coming back to you to update the page with specials, and whatnot, and you'll keep making some money off it. The more valuable thing you will have is an example of your work and a business reference you can take to other businesses which can lead to more work and experience. |

| It's impossible to tell because each book is formatted differently -- spacing, font, margins, etc are all different. However, you can tell how many manuscript pages you have, and by that you can calculate word count, which is what publishers really care about when you submit a novel. Double space, use TNR 12 or Courier New 12, 1" margins all around for the most basic formatting.That assumes 250 words per page. Different genres (except lit fic) have different word count expectations. Research your target publishers to see what they expect. |

| this is a simple enough thing to do if you know what you are doin. firstly you need to use "actionscript". to get your frame to stop then you go into the timeline (wich shows all the frames) and you riht click on the frame that you want to stop. now look down the pop up list for actions. and paste in this code stop(); and that is all there is to it. hopefully that made sense to you. |
